Recently, we sat down with aaron greer band power drummer Clarence Grant for a behind the scenes spotlight interview. The man that drives the pulse of agb had lots to say!
What got you into playing drums?
CG: Well, I grew up in a musical household, my dad Clarence Sr. is pianist and my mother Pam is a singer, so music is in my bones. As far as choosing
drums, it's more like they chose me. When I was 4 my parents got me a Muppet Babies drum set, I fell in love and have been playing ever since. When I was 8
one of the most influential drummers I now know came into my life, and if it weren't for Rodney Burrows I don' t know if I would be the drummer I am today.
Whats your favorite thing about being a drummer?
CG: My favorite thing about being a drummer is being able to use the gift God gave to me to contribute to worshipping him, on stage or off. Drums alone
are not very conducive to worship, but together with the right instrumentation, it is a key instrument. Also, they are loud and a lot of fun. If you havent
played before, you definitely need to give it a try."
What is your favorite AGB moment?
CG: Three words "Land Of Lincoln!!!" For anyone that has seen the movie That Thing You Do, you already get it.
There is a scene where Lenny the guitar player (played by Steve Zahn)
is on stage in Illinois and says, "Thank you, Illinois! The Land of Lincoln!" Why we find that so funny I can't say. As we were on the last leg of a tour this summer, we were driving north into Illinois from Missouri and
talking about that scene. Thats when we saw the "Welcome To Illinois" sign, and at the bottom of the sign it read, "The Land Of Lincoln". We freaked out!!!
Watch video of that agb "Land of Lincoln" moment.
When asked about their drummer, aaron greer said, "It's impossible not to love Clarence. I used to see him play for other christian bands years ago, and I would
literally watch HIM the whole time 'cause he's that much fun to watch playing drums. I'm proud and humbled to have him a part of AGB."
